Pakistan telecom sector revenue crosses Rs 1 trillion as PTA highlights growth and 5G readiness

Pakistan’s telecom sector has achieved a historic milestone by surpassing the Rs 1 trillion revenue mark during FY2024-25, reflecting strong financial performance and sustained growth, according to official data released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). Sector revenues increased from Rs 957 billion last year, while total fiscal contributions rose to Rs 402 billion, underlining telecom’s expanding role in Pakistan’s economy.

The sector also attracted investments worth over USD 838 million, with foreign direct investment nearly doubling to USD 97 million during the year. While growth momentum remains intact, the PTA highlighted key challenges ahead, including capital-intensive 5G deployment, spectrum-related litigation, and long investment recovery timelines. Government support through fiberisation initiatives and policy facilitation is expected to play a crucial role in enabling next-generation connectivity and long-term digital transformation.
