Govt Moves to Finalize Five-Year Industrial and Textile Policies

ISLAMABAD: The government is in the final stages of drafting a comprehensive Textiles & Apparel Policy and a National Industrial Policy for the next five years, aimed at enhancing competitiveness, reducing trade barriers, and driving long-term export growth.

Chairing a high-level meeting with textile industry leaders, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan said the new policies will focus on lowering manufacturing costs, improving productivity, promoting R&D, diversifying products and markets, and boosting Pakistan’s global trade share.

He emphasized that all decisions are being made in consultation with stakeholders, stressing that “export-led growth is the only sustainable path for Pakistan’s economy.”

The minister shared insights from his recent visit to Dhaka, noting Bangladesh’s export success and underscoring the need to adopt global best practices.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries, Haroon Akhtar Khan, added that the forthcoming 10-year industrial roadmap would cover key areas including energy, tariffs, taxation, economic zones, financing, and investor facilitation. He highlighted plans for greenfield project support, PPP-based land lease models, and a one-window system for investors.

APTMA representatives urged the government to address structural inefficiencies and provide a level playing field for exporters to compete internationally.
