KSE-100 Index rallies 2,931.71 points to close at 180,014.93 on August 5, 2026, driven by broad-based buying at the Pakistan Stock Exchange

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) staged a strong recovery on Wednesday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index soaring nearly 2,932 points as widespread buying returned across key sectors, led by commercial banks, fertilizer, cement, investment companies, and oil & gas exploration stocks.

Investor sentiment improved following relative stability in international oil prices after two sessions of sharp declines. Market participants also welcomed ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at easing tensions between the United States and Iran and reopening the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. The decline in volatility across global energy markets helped restore investor confidence and encouraged renewed buying in equities.

The benchmark KSE-100 Index settled at 180,014.93, gaining 2,931.71 points, or 1.66%, from the previous close. The index remained firmly in positive territory throughout the session, reaching an intraday high of 180,202.38 (+3,119.16 points) and an intraday low of 178,512.09 (+1,428.87 points).

Trading activity strengthened, with 294.91 million shares exchanged among KSE-100 constituents. Market breadth turned overwhelmingly positive, as 82 companies advanced, 17 declined, while one stock remained unchanged.

Among the session's top-performing stocks, Gadoon Textile Mills Limited (GADT) surged 10.00%, followed by Fatima Fertilizer Company Limited (FATIMA) (+5.19%), Habib Bank Limited (HBL) (+4.90%), Kohat Cement Company Limited (KOHC) (+4.42%), and Javedan Corporation Limited (JVDC) (+4.05%).

On the losing side, Mehmood Textile Mills Limited (MEHT) declined 10.00%, while Kot Addu Power Company Limited (KAPCO) fell 1.99%. Other notable laggards included TPL REIT Fund I (TPLRF1) (-1.57%), Pakistan Services Limited (PSEL) (-1.36%), and IBL Finance Limited (IBFL) (-1.35%).

In terms of index-point contribution, Habib Bank Limited (HBL) emerged as the biggest supporter of the benchmark by contributing 310.86 points. Other major contributors included United Bank Limited (UBL) (+269.36 points), Meezan Bank Limited (MEBL) (+268.43 points), Engro Holdings Limited (ENGROH) (+240.05 points), and Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited (FFC) (+205.34 points).

Meanwhile, Pakistan Services Limited (PSEL) exerted the largest negative impact on the benchmark, dragging the index down by 13.14 points. Additional pressure came from Mehmood Textile Mills Limited (MEHT) (-11.67 points), KAPCO (-9.32 points), TPL REIT Fund I (TPLRF1) (-7.75 points), and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGP) (-5.00 points).

Sector-wise, Commercial Banks provided the strongest support to the benchmark, contributing 1,352.06 points. Significant gains also came from Fertilizer (+363.12 points), Cement (+319.57 points), Investment Banks, Investment Companies & Securities Companies (+257.99 points), and Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (+186.19 points).

On the downside, limited pressure came from Miscellaneous (-10.56 points), Real Estate Investment Trusts (-5.60 points), Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (-4.13 points), Synthetic & Rayon (-2.12 points), and Chemical (-0.48 points).

In the broader market, the PSX All-Share Index closed at 108,372.12, posting a gain of 1,386.88 points, or 1.30%.

Overall market participation remained robust, with 740.56 million shares traded during the session compared to 711.27 million shares in the previous trading day. The total traded value increased significantly by Rs10.03 billion to Rs35.91 billion, reflecting stronger institutional and retail participation.

A total of 387,149 trades were executed across 495 listed companies, with 302 stocks advancing, 158 declining, and 35 remaining unchanged, highlighting broad-based strength across the market.

Among the most actively traded stocks, TSBL led the volume chart with 52.88 million shares, followed by WorldCall Telecom Limited (WTL) (42.52 million shares), Cnergyico PK Limited (CNERGY) (40.20 million shares), Bank of Punjab (BOP) (40.11 million shares), and Unity Foods Limited (UNITY) (26.76 million shares).

Despite Wednesday's strong rebound, the KSE-100 Index remains down 287 points (0.16%) during the current fiscal year. However, on a calendar-year basis, the benchmark has gained 5,961 points (3.42%), reflecting improving investor confidence and continued resilience in Pakistan's equity market.
