The National Assembly has unanimously approved a Rs3 trillion allocation for Pakistan’s armed forces as part of the federal budget for FY2026-27, while clearing 125 demands for grants across various ministries, divisions, and departments.

The approvals pave the way for the passage of the Rs18.77 trillion federal budget, which is scheduled for final approval on June 23.

Among the major allocations, the House approved Rs578.8 billion for the Power Division, Rs1.16 trillion for pensions and superannuation allowances, Rs2.50 trillion for grants and subsidies, and Rs85.6 billion for the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb expressed confidence in achieving next year’s revenue targets, highlighting improvements in key economic indicators, including GDP growth, current account performance, and fiscal stability. He also noted that the government had recovered Rs450 billion through tax-related litigation.

During the session, lawmakers also agreed in principle to restore live broadcast coverage of opposition speeches under a mutually agreed code of conduct.

The government maintained that ongoing reforms in the power sector and tax administration are helping reduce fiscal pressures, while opposition members continued to raise concerns over inflation, poverty, and the burden on taxpayers.

The budget is expected to receive final parliamentary approval this week before implementation from July 1, 2026.
