The first round of high-level negotiations between the United States and Iran concluded in Switzerland, with both sides agreeing on a roadmap aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement within the next 60 days.

According to a joint statement issued by mediators Pakistan and Qatar, technical-level discussions will continue throughout the week at the Swiss resort of Buergenstock to advance key aspects of the proposed deal.

The talks focused on implementing the recently signed memorandum of understanding, including measures to maintain maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz and mechanisms to support a lasting ceasefire in Lebanon.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated that discussions also covered sanctions relief, the release of frozen Iranian assets, and plans for economic reconstruction and development. Meanwhile, US officials described the negotiations as constructive and confirmed that both sides remained engaged despite differences over regional security issues.

Tensions briefly surfaced after US President Donald Trump reiterated warnings against Iranian support for Hezbollah and threatened renewed military action if regional hostilities escalated. Iranian officials responded by emphasizing that progress on broader issues, including nuclear discussions, would depend on full implementation of existing commitments.

Despite the challenges, mediators reported that both delegations remained committed to dialogue, marking another step toward reducing tensions and pursuing a longer-term agreement between Washington and Tehran.

The outcome of the technical talks later this week is expected to play a key role in determining whether the two sides can successfully convert the temporary framework into a comprehensive and lasting settlement.
