Oil Companies Advisory Council welcomes Pakistan's daily petroleum pricing reform and market deregulation initiative.

The Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC) has welcomed the government's decision to introduce daily pricing of petroleum products, describing it as a significant step toward creating a competitive and market-driven fuel sector in Pakistan.

In a statement, the council praised the Ministry of Petroleum and the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) for advancing long-awaited deregulation reforms. OCAC said the new pricing mechanism would promote fair competition, improve operational efficiency and, over time, provide consumers with better services and greater pricing transparency.

The council reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the government's reform agenda, expressing confidence that a well-structured deregulation framework would modernise Pakistan's downstream petroleum sector while protecting consumer interests.

Commenting on the development, Attock Refinery Limited CEO Adil Khattak said the shift to daily fuel price notifications reflects the government's intent to enhance market responsiveness. However, he stressed that the effectiveness of the reform would depend on a transparent regulatory framework rather than the frequency of price adjustments alone.

Khattak urged the government to share the revised pricing mechanism, implementation roadmap and standard operating procedures (SOPs) with stakeholders to ensure a level playing field. He added that addressing structural challenges in pricing, inventories and imports would be essential for achieving meaningful deregulation and long-term market stability.
