SIFC clears obstacles for the $200 million Barite-Lead-Zinc mining project in Khuzdar, Balochistan.

The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) has resolved long-standing issues surrounding the Barite-Lead-Zinc (BLZ) Project in Khuzdar, Balochistan, paving the way for a $200 million strategic investment aimed at accelerating the development of Pakistan's mineral sector.

According to an official statement, the project has remained on the SIFC's agenda since December 2023 and is being developed by Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) in a joint venture with Bolan Mining Enterprises (BME). PPL serves as the project operator and holds a 50% working interest.

The statement said long-pending lease-related issues were resolved through SIFC's facilitation, removing key obstacles that had delayed the project's implementation.

A major milestone was achieved with the signing of the Operational Agreement during the Pakistan Mineral Forum 2025, formally initiating the project's implementation phase.

Located in the mineral-rich district of Khuzdar, the BLZ Project is regarded as one of Pakistan's most promising mining developments, with estimated reserves of 69 million tonnes and an expected mine life of 34 years.

The project is projected to generate annual revenues of $150 million to $230 million, while contributing significantly to mineral exports, employment opportunities, and economic development in Balochistan.

The government said the project's progress reflects its commitment to creating an investor-friendly environment by removing regulatory bottlenecks, facilitating strategic investments, and promoting the responsible development of Pakistan's mineral resources.

According to the statement, the achievement also highlights SIFC's role in unlocking the country's untapped mining potential, strengthening investor confidence, and supporting sustainable economic growth through large-scale mineral sector investments.
