The United States and Iran have agreed on a roadmap to reach a final agreement within 60 days, marking a significant step forward in efforts to resolve longstanding disputes and stabilize regional tensions.

The development emerged from the first round of high-level talks held at the Burgenstock resort in Switzerland under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with Pakistan and Qatar serving as mediators.

According to a joint statement issued simultaneously by the foreign ministries of Pakistan and Qatar, the discussions were conducted in a positive and constructive atmosphere and resulted in meaningful progress toward implementing the commitments outlined in the MoU.

As part of the understandings reached, both sides agreed to immediately continue technical negotiations throughout the week to address outstanding issues and prepare the groundwork for a comprehensive final agreement.

The parties also agreed to establish a High-Level Committee that will provide political oversight to the mediation process. Chief negotiators from both countries will regularly report to this committee and lead specialized working groups focusing on nuclear-related matters, sanctions, monitoring mechanisms, and dispute resolution procedures aimed at ensuring effective implementation of the agreement.

To support regional stability, the participants approved the creation of a de-confliction cell involving the parties and the Lebanese Republic. The mechanism, facilitated by Pakistan and Qatar, is intended to monitor compliance with commitments related to the termination of military operations in Lebanon under the MoU.

In addition, a dedicated communication channel has been established to prevent misunderstandings and incidents in the Strait of Hormuz, ensuring the safe movement of commercial shipping during the implementation period outlined in the agreement.

The mediating countries reaffirmed their commitment to facilitating constructive dialogue and helping both sides reach a durable and peaceful settlement. Pakistan and Qatar also expressed appreciation for the continued diplomatic engagement demonstrated by both Washington and Tehran, while acknowledging the support of friendly countries contributing to the peace process.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar welcomed the progress achieved during the talks and congratulated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their leadership and efforts in advancing the mediation initiative.

The latest breakthrough is viewed as an important milestone in the broader diplomatic process and signals growing momentum toward a comprehensive agreement that could help ease regional tensions and support global economic stability.
