Key members of OPEC+ have agreed to increase oil production by 188,000 barrels per day (bpd) from September 2026, completing the rollback of another round of voluntary production cuts as the group navigates supply disruptions linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict.

The decision was announced following an online meeting involving Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria and Oman. The increase was widely anticipated by market participants and marks the completion of the second production-cut package introduced by the alliance.

Despite the planned output increase, analysts said the immediate impact on global oil markets is likely to remain limited as shipping through the Strait of Hormuz continues to face disruptions. While some export activity has resumed following recent diplomatic developments, the vital energy corridor has yet to return to normal operations.

Market analysts noted that several OPEC+ members are currently producing below their official quotas due to operational constraints and lower production capacity, reducing the short-term significance of higher output targets. Russia, for instance, continues to face production challenges following repeated attacks on its oil infrastructure.

Looking ahead, analysts expect OPEC+ to maintain production levels during the fourth quarter as the alliance prepares for negotiations on new production quotas for 2027. While geopolitical tensions continue to dominate market sentiment, a full normalization of oil exports could shift investor focus toward the growing global supply outlook in the months ahead.
