Pakistan and Denmark have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch the Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC) Programme, marking a new phase of bilateral collaboration aimed at accelerating Pakistan's transition toward a cleaner and more sustainable energy sector.

The MoU was signed by Secretary Power Division Dr. Fakhre Alam Irfan on behalf of the Government of Pakistan and Denmark's Ambassador to Pakistan, Maja Derrous Mortensen, representing the Kingdom of Denmark. Federal Minister for Energy (Power Division) Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari attended the signing ceremony.

The government-to-government initiative will be jointly implemented by the Danish Energy Agency, the Embassy of Denmark in Islamabad, and Pakistan's Ministry of Energy (Power Division).

Under the programme, Danish experts will provide technical assistance, institutional capacity building, information sharing, and policy support to help Pakistan accelerate its green energy transition and achieve its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets in a cost-effective manner.

The cooperation will focus on three key areas:

• Long-term energy planning
• Renewable energy integration
• Industrial energy efficiency

The SSC Programme will support several major energy institutions, including the Independent System and Market Operator (ISMO), National Grid Company (NGC), National Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority (NEECA), National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), Power Planning and Monitoring Company (PPMC), and the Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB).

The initiative builds on the earlier Danish Energy Transition Initiative (DETI), which provided technical assistance and capacity development to Pakistan between 2021 and 2025. Under DETI, Pakistani energy professionals participated in study tours to Denmark, while annual GreenTech events in Karachi and Lahore promoted knowledge sharing and the adoption of sustainable energy technologies across the country.
