The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has increased regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) prices by up to 32% for August, marking the highest monthly increase since the fuel was introduced in Pakistan. The revised prices have been set at $25.83 per MMBtu for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and $25.09 per MMBtu for Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL).

The sharp increase follows Pakistan's reliance on five spot LNG cargoes after contracted shipments from Qatar were disrupted, significantly raising import costs. The latest revision pushes the retail RLNG price to around Rs7,204 per MMBtu, compared with approximately Rs5,446 per MMBtu in July.

OGRA also raised Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices for August by 5.4%, increasing the official rate to Rs254.32 per kilogram from Rs241.43 per kilogram in the previous month.

Separately, the regulator disclosed that it had reduced the prescribed revenue requirement for SNGPL and SSGCL, generating savings of nearly Rs50 billion. However, instead of passing the benefit on to consumers through lower gas tariffs, the amount will be utilised to reduce the gas sector's circular debt, in line with the federal government's policy.

According to OGRA's determination, the prescribed gas price for SNGPL has been reduced to Rs1,718.96 per MMBtu, while SSGCL's prescribed price has been lowered to Rs1,691.24 per MMBtu for FY2026-27. Despite the reduction in revenue requirements, consumer-end gas tariffs for the new fiscal year have yet to be notified.
