Pakistan's broad money (M2), the country's most widely used measure of money supply, declined by Rs228.17 billion week-on-week to Rs43.57 trillion as of July 24, 2026, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
Compared with the end of June 2026, broad money contracted by Rs2.89 trillion from Rs46.46 trillion, reflecting a notable decline in overall liquidity during the early weeks of the new fiscal year.
The currency in circulation fell by Rs184.23 billion over the week to Rs11.91 trillion. On a fiscal year-to-date basis, currency in circulation decreased by Rs29.52 billion from Rs11.94 trillion recorded at the end of June.
Meanwhile, bank deposits stood at Rs31.61 trillion, down Rs42.23 billion from the previous week and Rs2.86 trillion lower compared with the end of the last fiscal year. The reported deposits exclude inter-bank deposits, government deposits and deposits held by foreign constituents.
Broad money (M2) is the principal measure of money supply in Pakistan. From the liability side, it comprises currency in circulation, non-government sector deposits, including residents' foreign currency deposits, and other deposits with the SBP. From the asset side, it represents the combined net domestic assets and net foreign assets of the country's banking system, including the SBP and scheduled banks.
