Pakistan's foreign exchange reserves increase following multilateral inflows

Pakistan's total liquid foreign exchange reserves increased to $22.04 billion as of June 24, 2026, supported by fresh inflows received by the government from multilateral institutions, according to the latest data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The central bank's holdings stood at $16.53 billion, while commercial banks held net foreign exchange reserves of $5.52 billion, reflecting a stable external liquidity position.

During the week under review, the SBP's reserves rose by $611 million. The central bank attributed the increase primarily to inflows received from multilateral lenders, which strengthened the country's official reserve position.

The latest improvement follows recent external financing inflows aimed at supporting Pakistan's balance of payments and enhancing foreign exchange buffers. Higher reserve levels are expected to improve the country's capacity to meet external debt obligations, support exchange rate stability, and strengthen investor confidence.

The increase in reserves also reflects the government's continued efforts to secure external financing and maintain macroeconomic stability under its ongoing economic reform programme.
