Since the start of FY2027, cumulative borrowing for budgetary support has reached Rs2 trillion, while Rs66.43 billion has been repaid under commodity operations. Borrowing under the "others" category stands at Rs5.56 billion.
The SBP data also showed that the government continued reducing its reliance on central bank financing, retiring a net Rs1.89 trillion owed to the State Bank during the fiscal year. The federal government accounted for Rs1.88 trillion of these repayments, while provincial governments recorded a modest increase in borrowing.
Meanwhile, the government relied more heavily on scheduled banks, borrowing a net Rs3.89 trillion during FY2027. Of this amount, the federal government borrowed Rs4.26 trillion, while provincial governments collectively retired Rs368.01 billion, reflecting a continued shift toward commercial bank financing.
