The Pakistani rupee strengthened slightly against the US dollar in the interbank market on Monday, appreciating by 3.04 paisa to close at Rs277.77 per dollar, compared with Rs277.80 in the previous trading session.

The latest advance marked the 210th consecutive session of appreciation against the greenback, with the rupee posting a cumulative gain of Rs3.65, or 1.31%, during the period. During the session, the local currency traded between Rs277.75 at its strongest level and Rs277.95 at its weakest.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at Rs278.60 for buying and Rs278.80 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee weakened against the euro, British pound and Japanese yen. It closed at Rs320.09 per euro, Rs373.69 per British pound, and Rs1.7695 per Japanese yen, reflecting modest declines from the previous session.

However, the local currency recorded gains against several regional currencies. The rupee appreciated to Rs343.61 per Swiss franc, Rs41.13 per Chinese yuan, Rs73.97 per Saudi riyal, and Rs75.63 per UAE dirham.

Since the start of FY2027, the rupee has strengthened by 38.82 paisa, or 0.14%, against the US dollar. On a calendar-year basis, it has gained Rs2.35, representing an appreciation of 0.85%.

Meanwhile, money market conditions remained stable, with the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer Rates (KIBOR) easing by 4 basis points to 11.49% and 11.74%, respectively.
